“A fast, loose and incredibly fun modern high-performance twin fin”
Price: $880
Dimensions: 5’6″ x 19 1/4″ x 2 1/4″
Overview:
Before the new model came out MR made a couple of demos for myself and Mick and the 5’6 went so amazing that even though I definitely didn’t need any more boards, I had to buy it off him. The Super Twin 2 is an updated model of MR’s all time favourite board with deeper a flatter deck, increased foam in the rails, wider nose area and deeper concaves. All of this makes the board faster, looser, with more paddle power; adding up to a more small-wave focused board, perfect in anything from 1-4ft.
Despite these changes the new model still has fairly low rails and medium rocker so it has a really high-performance, sharp feel to it in clean, steep waves. You will also notice the amazing amount of hold the big tin fins create once they’re locked in through a rail turn.
The Super Twin 2 is set up with 3 FCSII plugs to be ridden as either a straight twin fin or with a stabiliser and the MR FCS set is the obvious choice to use in it. Personally, I prefer mine with the stabiliser in the back plug unless the surf is tiny.
I’m such a big fan of the Super Twin 2 that it was one of only two I took with me on a recent trip to Europe and the board went epic the whole time (until I hit an iceberg in Iceland)
Recommended Conditions: You’ll have a blast in anything from 1-4ft!

Hey Tim!
I’d love to ride this board.
Any tip for a 178cm/82kg in terms of size/volume?
Cheers,
Pablo.

Hey Pablo,
I’d recommend riding 1-2 Litres more than your normal shortboard; a 6’0 or 6’2 should be pretty good at 82kg;
6’0 x 20 x 2 1/2 – 32 ]L
6’2 x 20 1/4 x 2 5/8 – 35L

Would you know the literage of the 5’8 and 5’10?
August 10, 2018
5’8 x 19 1/2 x 2 3/8 – approx 29L (dont have an exact volume sorry)
5’10 x 19 3/4 x 2 1/2 – 31.5L

Hi Tim
I am considering a Super Twin
I am 5’10 and 90 Kg what spec board would be suitable for me please ?
March 2, 2019
Hey Tony,
A good rule of thumb for Twinnys is up a litre or two than your normal board if you know what you’re riding at the moment?
But the minimum volume you should ride at 90kg is around 35L, so in a Super Twin 6’4 x 20 1/2 x 2 5/8 – 35.5L

Hi, Tim
I decided to start surfing again at the tender age of 62, after a 30 year break… I used to surf (and loved) a 5’10” Lighting Bolt totally MR Retro style 1980 (20 3/4 wide / 2.36 thick) and it worked beautifully for me back then. (I am… was… an intermediate level surfer.) Bearing in mind that I plan to surf nothing bigger than 6 feet, that I’m 5’8 1/2 in height and weigh 65 kg (just like 30 years ago!) should I change anything in particular concerning the board’s specs? What should I aim for as translated to the current range of MR boards available?
Thank you kindly!
Thank you kindly!

Hi, Tim
JÚLIO BORJA: P.S. To my message of August 5: (a) Make that “I plan to surf nothing bigger than 8 feet, most of the time…”; (b) A board that’s really easy to paddle on would be nice.
Again – thank you kindly!

Hey mate,
The MR Flying Fish would probably be your best bet, its a really nice all-rounder with some forward volume so it paddles well. After so long out of the water you will want a pretty big board – I’d say no less than 32L ish and anywhere up from there depending on how easy you would like to make it for yourself
Thanks, Tim
