“Added control, drive and responsiveness for your gun!”
I’ve been experimenting with our demo fins in my guns for the last year and found that I love how the Futures F4 Control Series perform. It seems counterintuitive to use smaller fins with longer boards in bigger waves, but the narrow tails on guns result in a smaller area between the fins which needs compensating for. Generally I’ll use medium Al Merricks in most of my shortboards, so a small F4 is a big jump down in size that I would find too loose in a lot of other boards. However, due to hold produced by these pin-tails there is still more than enough control with increased responsiveness and therefore easier to turn on big walls.
Future Fins control series all incorporate their stiffest fibreglass construction with the new uni-layer carbon strips and a flat inside foil; all of which enhance control, drive and responsiveness. Additionally this creates added strength and durability to help them survive some knocks when surfing around reefs and rocks.
For guys heavier than myself who would normally ride large fins in their shortboard, I would recommend the Medium EA Controllers.
Recommended Use: I have been using the F4 controllers in my two Firewire guns which are 6’5 x 18 3/8 x 2 1/2 and 7’0 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/2 – the boards I would generally ride in anything 6-12ft at home.
